Trust the Process

It seems like a simple idea, right? Trusting the process seems totally doable in our minds. However, our actions and society say otherwise. We are pushed by culture and make our own choices to engage in, short-term plans for the fast and easy. In this I-want-it-now world of today, the idea of going through a strategic process for an end product can be mentally excruciating. But stick with it, because the journey is worth the wait.

Life is built around processes.

As people, we naturally go through stages in life of growing and learning: physically, mentally, emotionally, and experientially. If we jumped to certain moments in our lives without these processes, we would be overwhelmed and ill-equipped to enjoy or face those times. Nature also uses processes to create products and produce growth. Weather and plants, animals and seasons, they all go through specific journeys. So why would we expect a different scenario when it comes to design?

It’s not always one-size-fits-all.

Great design takes education, time, and planning. It is not built overnight. Sure those templates make it look fast and easy. But you may find yourself down the road with a product that no longer fits you or you discover that does not truly match your mission. The process uncovers all of that. Because you put in the work ahead, the chances of ill-matched design will be significantly reduced.

The process looks at the roots, not the flowers that bloom for a season.

When you take the time to truly study a tree over a period of time, you see not only what type of tree it is, but you learn about its characteristics, its needs, its seasons, and its health. This is what the process is all about, taking time to investigate what makes your business tick. What is the reason you do what you do? By starting at the roots and working your way up, you will gather valuable information about what type of business you are and gain knowledge of your needs, your goals, and your desires. The process helps fine-tune your vision, discover flaws and unforeseen hiccups, and may even become a catalyst for a new direction that you did expect because you dug deeper than the surface.

The process is just as important as the product (if not more).

We learn valuable lessons moving through the process. In the end, there is a beautiful reward but the growing and learning comes through the experience. That very growth and soul-searching makes the reward worth more and will create a better result. You earned it and you know more about yourself and your business than you started with. The value is in the journey because you understand why the product is the best solution for your success.
